I'm not a very good gift giver, especially if I can't get the person that I'm gifting to tell me what they want. That thought changed though when I stumbled across this heartfelt, personalized Christmas craft idea that Shelly's Chic Boutique posted on Saturday, December 7th. Once I saw how simple it was to create, I knew what I was going to be giving several close friends for Christmas!
Shelly showed how easy it was to make personalized drink coasters using favorite photos. All you'll need are resin molds, epoxy resin, and of course favorite pics to put this thoughtful gift together. Watch on to see how Shelly does it. The final product is very cool!
I would be delighted to get a gift like this! Commenters also loved Shelly's unique and thoughtful gift idea. @Kelley.Donathan swooned, "These are absolutely stunning!!" and @Debra Sumrall added, "Love this - so unique!" @Kals Kreations shared, "Love these! It’s so much fun to do photos with resin. They last forever!"
How to Make Personalized Drink Coasters
Everybody wanted to know where Shelly got the molds and how she actually made the coasters. I was curious myself and found the answer over on Instagram. She posted the same video and added the caption, "They are so easy to make, so beautiful and make such great gifts. They’re so versatile: create a coaster in any theme: I used school supplies to make teacher gifts, but personalize theme for a holiday, sport, beach and so many more. Each coaster costs less than $2 to make so they’re also very affordable!"
She also offered the details of how she put the coasters together. The mold and epoxy resin were both found on Amazon.
Start off by pouring the epoxy resin mix (
If you'd like to do themed coasters (you can find a really cute idea for teacher's gifts on her TikTok profile), the directions are very similar. Pour the epoxy resin mix (it is a 2-part kit) into the mold, filling the mold so it just covers the bottom Next, add your themed things to the molds (e.g., school supplies, shells for a beach, flowers for Mother’s Day, etc.) Allow the resin to set (she recommends 8 hours). Finally, pour the second round of epoxy mix over and fill to the top.
While she used a round resin mold, I prefer square, and I was able to find square resin molds on Amazon as well. I think the photos would be easier to cut into a square than a circle. Total for one mold and the 2-part epoxy resin kit is $34.98, with free shipping for prime members. Such an affordable, personal, and fun DIY gift idea!
