It's a 'Battle of the Exes'—HGTV Reveals a Dramatic Sneak Peek At The New Show 'The Flip Off'
Before the public divorce that brought their real estate empire to an unfortunate end, HGTV hosts Christina Haack and Tarek El Moussa were the ultimate house-flipping power couple with their smash hit TV series Flip or Flop. Years after their big breakup, the former partners in business and marriage are back in the house-flipping TV game once more—this time as rivals.
Christina and Tarek's new competition show, The Flip Off, is set to premiere on HGTV next month, and it's already becoming one of the most highly anticipated new shows of 2025, thanks to a recent series of dramatic developments involving the show's stars and their personal lives. Here's everything we know about The Flip Off so far—including a brand-new sneak peek of one of the premiere's most dramatic moments.
When Is The Flip Off Premiering?
HGTV has officially announced that The Flip Off will premiere on Wednesday, January 29, at 8 p.m. ET, with a special two-hour-long episode kicking off a six-episode first season.
Who Are the Competitors of The Flip Off?
The show will pit Tarek El Moussa (along with his new wife, luxury real estate agent Heather Rae El Moussa) against his ex Christina Haack and her team. Tarek has nearly 1,000 successful house flips to his credit through his business, Tarek Buys Houses, while Christina spent nearly a decade flipping houses alongside Tarek and has years of experience as a design expert creating high-end dream homes for her clients. Christina starts off the competition teamed up with her new husband Josh Hall, but... well, things take a dramatic turn very early on, leaving Christina with more to prove on her own than ever before.
What Is The Flip Off About?
At its core, The Flip Off is "an epic battle of the exes." Tarek and Christina, with their respective teams, will compete to see which ex can "find, buy, renovate and flip a house for the biggest financial gain," with the winner receiving a first-class vacation paid for by the loser—along with the "ultimate bragging rights," of course.
Across the season's six-episode run, the two teams will "put their skills and budget to the test as they renovate the kitchen, main suite, living room, guest suite, extra bedroom and exterior of their chosen properties," according to HGTV. The winner of each week's challenge will receive a $2,000 prize from the losing team to put towards their next space.
The competition will be evaluated by an illustrious list of special handpicked guest judges, including "Heather Dubrow (The Real Housewives of Orange County); Dominique El Moussa and Laurie Haack (Tarek and Christina’s Moms); Amanza Smith (Selling Sunset); Ant Anstead (Christina’s ex-husband and host of Ant Anstead: Born Mechanic); Izzy Battres (Izzy Does It) and Jeff Lawrence (former Flip or Flop contractor); and Jeff Lewis (Hollywood Houselift, host of Sirius XM’s “Jeff Lewis Live”)," HGTV reports.
This is not your average real estate competition show, though, as The Flip Off is rife with intense relationship drama from the get-go. Along with Tarek and Christina's contentious history together, a wrench is thrown into the gears in the first episode when Christina announces her divorce from her new husband and intended Flip Off partner Josh Hall, forcing her to make a tough decision about approaching the competition moving forward.
"In the supersized two-hour premiere episode, Tarek will throw down the gauntlet on the soccer field, initiating the competition with Christina," HGTV reveals. "They’ll formulate the rules of the game, beginning with only one week to find and purchase their flip homes."
"Soon after a tumultuous house hunt, Christina will drop an emotional bombshell on Tarek when she reveals she’s getting divorced and wishes to continue the competition solo. She’ll appeal to Tarek and Heather for more time to complete the kitchen renovations, which will be judged by tastemaker Heather Dubrow, and offer to give them a sneak peek of her property."
