Make Your Own Valentine's Day Banner
Homemade crafts are a fun way to add your personal touch to holiday decorations. You can make this LOVE banner in an afternoon!
Look through your closet for a colorful cotton top to recycle. Check my supply list for items you might need to buy at the craft store. Then follow my how-to for making applique letters.
Supplies:
- burlap fabric
- recycled shirt fabric
- fabric fuse
- scissors
- pencil
- soft cover cloth
- iron
- ironing board
- jute twine chord
- ruler
- lint brush
- sewing machine
- thread (or hot glue & glue gun)
How-to:
Gather your supplies on your work surface. Measure and cut six, 6 inch by 7 inch burlap triangles.
Burlap has a lot of lint. Roll lint roller over cut burlap. Fold over one inch at the top of each cut burlap triangle and iron flat.
Print LOVE letters on your computer. (TIP: The font I used is called Lantinghei TC, size-200, bold.) When cut, letters will be 2.5 inches tall by 2 inches wide. Check size of cut letters on your cut burlap triangles.
Place shirt fabric, good side down, onto ironing board. Iron a piece of fabric fuse onto your fabric. Place letters down backwards on paper and trace.
Cut out letters. Use the end of your scissors (or a seam ripper) to help you lift the edge and peel away paper from back of each letter. Cut two heart shapes approximately 2.5 inch by 2 inches from your fused fabric.
Place burlap triangle onto your ironing board with folded side down. Center your cut letter on top. Cover letter with a damp soft cloth and iron at high heat for 15 seconds. Repeat for each letter and your cut hearts.
Cut a 48 inch length of jute chord. Place chord under folded part of your burlap triangle. Stitch your fold closed with your sewing machine. Do not sew over chord, so your triangles are moveable. You can also use hot glue to close fold. Be careful not to get glue onto your chord!
Hang your cute banner on a window, mantel, or shelf and have a happy Valentine's Day!
