Oh, Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree—how lovely are your branchesespecially when they’re wintery white visions that look like they came straight from the Land of Snowflakes. So it’s no wonder professional designers all over the world are drawn to them during the holiday season. “As an interior designer, I adore decorating with white trees,”Linda Schuster Vartanian of Simply Divine Designs tells Parade. “Honestly, I don’t think I will ever grow tired of using white trees for the holidays. They are magical and create the most beautiful ambiance in your home.”
However, she knows that not everyone will be immediately captivated by them and that switching from a traditional green pine tree to a white one can be a little intimidating for some people. “If you’re not sure, but you’ve always wanted to try a white tree, why not start small?” she suggests. “Invest in a mini one, or perhaps a slim pencil tree. Then, set it up in a bedroom or a hallway, just to get a feel for it.”
Schuster Vartanian says you don’t even have to fully decorate it for it to win you over. “Just add some twinkle lights to make it sparkle,” she shares. “Doing so could be the first step in you falling in love with a white Christmas tree!”

Are White Trees in Style?
White trees are not only currently in style, but Schuster Vartanian reveals they’re not going away anytime soon. “I think white Christmas trees have gained popularity in recent years due to the fact that people are now paying more attention to making their homes look spectacular and unique,” she explains. “One of the best ways of doing this during the holiday season is by, of course, selecting a gorgeous white tree that blends beautifully with your decor.”
'Why I Always Choose a White Christmas Tree'
There are several reasons why Schuster Vartanian opts for a white Christmas tree, but here are her top three.
1. They Embody Enchantment
Schuster Vartanian loves that white Christmas trees make it easy to create a dreamy, storybook-looking atmosphere no matter where you put it. “It adds a fairytale-like vibe to your holiday home,” she tells Parade. “If you’ve only ever used traditional green trees, a white one can be a refreshing change!”
2. They Have a Snowy Appearance
If you’ve always wished you could have a tree that looked like it was plucked from a winter wonderland, that’s one of the reasons why Schuster Vartanian prefers using white ones when she decorates.
“Think about pine trees in nature,” Schuster Vartanian says. “Yes, they most certainly are green, but think about how they look after a fresh snowfall when they’re completely covered in white. That’s when they look extra white, fluffy and gorgeous, which is the same whimsical effect a white Christmas tree will bring to your home.”

3. They Are Timeless
Just like green Christmas trees, Schuster Vartanian thinks white Christmas trees will stand the test of time. “I believe a white Christmas tree is a timeless tree to use because it can be both classic and modern. A white tree lends itself beautifully to both designs.”
How to Style a White Christmas Tree
While there are countless ways to decorate a white Christmas tree, these are seven of Schuster Vartanian’s favorites.
1. Think Pink
“My love for blush pink often shows up on my white trees because I enjoy using cotton candy pastels. They look so delicious on white trees.”
2. Sprinkle in Ribbons
“Using ribbon of any size looks beautiful on white trees. Whether you loop them vertically or horizontally throughout the tree, or if you tie pretty bows onto the branches, ribbon is a great way to make your tree look stunning and full. One of my favorite types of ribbons to use is white faux fur. I like adding it to my white trees to give them a fluffy, snowy effect.”
3. Create a Monochromatic Look
“When it comes to dressing your tree with ornaments, any color your heart desires will work with a white tree. However, I especially love to cover white trees in all white ornaments to give them a professional, monochromatic appearance.”
4. Add Flowers
“When it comes to decorating your white tree, you don’t only have to use traditional Christmas ball ornaments. I like to use faux flowers—not just poinsettias, but flowers that I use in my decor all year round!”
5. Embrace Dark Glam
“I do love black, white and gold together. In fact, the first white tree I ever decorated was with black and gold ornaments. I called it ‘The Chanel.’”
6. Go Minimal
“On their own, unadorned white trees can look so magical. However, they are beyond whimsical when they are decorated and covered in twinkle lights.”
7. Let Metallics Inspire You
“Lastly, they look great covered in metallic decorations. When you use silvers and golds on white trees, the results are simply spectacular!”
