Hey, you guys–Oregon's iconic landmark, the site of the home featured in the cult-classic film, The Goonies, has a new owner with big plans for the property

The home—located in Astoria, Oregon, a port city on the Columbia River—was up for sale last year and recently purchased by a longtime fan, Behman Zakeri, per the local CBS affiliate KOIN 6 News.

Zakeri confessed that he first stepped inside the home about a decade ago and told the then-owner that he would like to buy it someday.

A decade later, on Wednesday, Jan. 11, Zakeri closed on the listing and purchased the celebrity Victorian-era home. The cost of making his dreams a reality? Just over $1.5 million, with the estimated total purchase price of the house teetering at $1,650,777.

“This was a purchase for ‘Goonies’ fans. This was a purchase for the community. This was a purchase to preserve a landmark and to do the right thing for all those Goonies,” Zakeri told reporters.

Zakeri wasn't tied to the area before taking over the property. The entrepreneur and Kansas City native revealed his only connection to the Pacific Northwest was Steven Spielberg's 1985 adventure flick and his childhood best friend, Michael Eakin, who previously relocated, living in both Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon areas, and since purchased the home adjacent to the Goonies house.

“So, we’re going to end up being neighbors again after all these years, from Kansas City to Astoria! It’s so magical,” Zakeri exclaimed.

Eakin actually joined his best friend during Zakeri's first visit to the home in 2015 in celebration of the film's 30th anniversary. At the time, owner Sandi Preston let the two men enter for a tour.

“We went up in the attic, and I told Sandi, I was like, ‘I’d like to buy this house someday if you ever sell it,’ and she said, ‘You and a million other people,’” Zakeri recalled.

Of the many other interested parties, Zakeri was the only one to complete the hunt for the deed, and the new owner has a total treasure trove planned for fans of the movie. He told the outlet that engineers have already offered to help him rebuild props and redesign the property to look as depicted on the '80s set.

Zakeri said he has no plans to turn the historic site into a business, but he wants it to remain a location that Goonies fans can long enjoy–after all, Goonies never say die!
