Duct Tape DIY Projects

duct tape diy projects collage

DIY projects are so exciting. It is so much fun to transform an item into something completely different. This is especially true when transforming an inexpensive item into an upscale home decoration. Duct tape is the perfect tool to turn an ordinary item into something spectacular!

Most DIY projects are time consuming. You have to spend time sanding, priming and/or waiting for paint to dry. Sometimes, I want to complete an easy, inexpensive project that provides instant results.

I am a huge fan of duct tape because it is inexpensive and comes in a wide variety of patterns and colors. The following duct tape DIY projects are easy, inexpensive and provide instant gratification.

Lamp Shade Transformation

SAMSUNG CSC

This lamp shade is my favorite duct tape makeover. I upgraded the entire look of a lamp without making any permanent alterations. The cover can easily be removed to reveal the original shade or to change the look in the future.

Instructions:

  1. Cut the silver duct tape into long strips based on the horizontal length (circumference) of your lampshade.
  2. Attach the sticky side of the silver strips to the sticky side of another piece of duct tape.
  3. Cut the gold duct tape into strips based on the vertical height of your lampshade.
  4. Attach the sticky side of the gold strips to the sticky side of another piece of duct tape.
  5. Lay the strips out and weave them through one another.
  6. Take a piece of silver duct tape and fold it in half over each side of the woven mat, securing it to the back of the mat. When you are finished, you should have what looks like a woven place mat.
  7. Wrap the woven mat around your lampshade. Use a piece of silver duct tape to secure the seam.

Flower Pot Accent

Let’s face it, flower pots aren’t exactly the most exciting decorative home item. For example, I have a really cute topiary in a boring white pot. I decided to use duct tape to add a stripe and bow and make the pot a little more interesting.

Instructions:

  1. Wrap a piece of decorative duct tape around the pot.
  2. To create the bow, cut a piece of duct tape and fold it in half, securing it to itself.
  3. Pinch the piece of duct tape in the middle.
  4. Wrap a smaller piece of duct tape around the center of the bow.
  5. Use duct tape to secure the bow to the stripe on the pot.

Mirror Makeover

SAMSUNG CSC

I have a mirror in my home office that had a pretty ugly frame. I just never liked it. However, I bought it because it was on sale for a great price. I wanted to change the look of the mirror but didn’t want to spend time painting it.

Since a lot of the accessories in my office are silver, I decided to use silver duct tape. I wrapped the frame in long strips of duct tape. I love the new look of this mirror.
