DIY Pomander Fabric Balls - Holiday Home Decor
In a few simple steps, you can create an adorable Christmas tree ornament or gift topper. No special skills required and each pomander ball can be personalized in colors that are perfect for the Christmas tree or gift recipient.
I love the versatility of pomander balls. You can make them for nearly any occasion by making them in special colors, then use them as gift toppings, Christmas tree ornaments, decor for weddings or holiday parties. They are easily made and can be completed in under an hour. This is a great craft for adults and older children.
SUPPLIES:
- Styrofoam ball (2 inches)
- 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 fabric squares, cut with pinking shears
- Glue gun with extra glue sticks
- Sharp pencil
DIRECTIONS:
Note: Please be careful when using the hot glue gun.
STEP 1: Wrap a fabric square around the end of the pencil.
STEP 2: Add a bit of hot glue on the fabric. A little bit of glue is all you need. This is where you really want to be careful not to burn yourself. The metal end of the glue gun and the glue itself will be very hot. Please be careful.
STEP 3: Gently insert the pencil into the Styrofoam ball, pushing the hot glue part of the fabric into the ball. Remove the pencil being careful to not pull the fabric back out. If that happens just repeat the process with the same fabric.
STEP 4: Repeat step 3 using different types of fabric until the entire ball is covered. You can place the fabric as close or as far apart on the ball as you'd like depending on how full you would like it to look.
STEP 5: To attach a fabric hanger take a strip of fabric about 5 inches long, fold it in half, wrap around the pencil, and add glue to the end.
STEP 6: Add the fabric strip to the Styrofoam ball using the same method you used to add the fabric squares.
Once you are done you can add the pomander ball to the top of a gift or make multiple ones to decorate the Christmas tree.
