Beautiful Patriotic Decorations You Can Make at Home

Fireworks, barbecues, and family. That is what comes to mind when I think of 4th of July. However, it can also be a time to enjoy some at home crafts, that will dress the house up for this memorable holiday.

I have three wonderful ideas you could use to create terrific 4th of July home decorations:

1. Firework Table Decorations 

Whether you are having an indoor party or an outdoor party, this table decoration is fun and simple to make! This project uses the simple center of the toilet paper roll that is normally tossed out, but now you can up cycle it:

You will need several different sizes of toilet paper rolls. Take the roll and decorate it with paint and cut up construction paper in any red, white, or blue decoration as you like. You can cut up halves or thirds of a bigger roll to make a "lid" for the smaller rolls. The lid should be slightly bigger than the "firecracker" roll so it fits over one end of the "firecracker" roll. Then poke a hole at the top of your lid and thread a short piece of yarn or string through it.

This will give your firecracker the look of a firework waiting to be lit. After you put it together, you are ready to place it on any table or counter. TIP: Make many of them in different sizes and heights. You can then place all over the table in small bunches for a festive look! 

2. Homemade "Sparklers"

You can also get creative with yarn to make affordable, children-safe "sparklers." Take several pieces of yarn (these pieces of yarn will act as the sparkler, so add enough pieces for it to be a full, colorful sparkler), and wrap tape around and down half the length of the yarn pile. Then take two pipe cleaners in any of the patriotic color that you would like. We will make the the handle of the "sparkler" by twist them together in a braiding motion down the taped half of the yarn pile.

Be sure to tightly twist them together so that the pipe cleaners will not unravel after shaking them around. You can also fold over the very end of the pipe cleaner end to ensure it will stay input. Now you have a cute palm palm to shake around while watching real fireworks or hanging out with friends and family - it is affordable, completely DIY and pets and children-proof!

3. July 4th Jello Treats

You can make something tasty for the entire family. These are red, white or blue gelatin molds that I made using a silicone muffin pan. The silicone muffin pan makes it easy to make individualized and personal size gelatin molds for you and your friends.

First, decide which gelatin color(s) you are going to use. Prepare as directed on the box. Now here is where the fun part comes in. You can get creative and add some fruit into your gelatin. For example, if you are using red gelatin, you can add strawberry slices or raspberries. For blue gelatin, you could add blueberries and for white, you can add really any white type fruit you like such as banana slices.

TIP: For "white" gelatin, try a clear lemon. 

These fruit pieces should added after 8 minutes of letting the gelatin to stand after mixing them and placing them into the silicone muffin tins. Now after you refridgerate for 4+ hours, you can easily pop them out from the silicone muffin pan and place onto individual plates. You can share these with your family and friends. Top them with extra fruit or whip cream for a final touch!

So, you really can be creative and do many DIY crafts for July 4th! The possiblities of decorating for this festive holiday are endless, it doesn't have to cost a lot of money to decorate your home or table! I hope I gave you some wonderful ideas for you and your family to enjoy July 4th!
