Elizabeth Hurley Skips the Gym in Favor of Getting Fit With Her Chainsaw (It Really Does Burn Tons of Calories!)

Ever wondered how Elizabeth Hurley stays so trim and svelte? Oh, no big deal. She uses a chainsaw.

No, no. Hurley, 54, isn't showing off her best Leatherface impression, a la The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The businesswoman, actress and model told Extra during a recent interview that she doesn't go to a gym to stay in shape. She's far more interested in keeping her yard looking gorgeous, which in turn helps her look her best, too.

Hurley is a big fan of gardening and yard work. And as anyone who's ever spent an extended amount of time working on pulling weeds, cutting down trees, or even planting flowers can tell you, it's hard work.

"I don’t work out, per se, but I am very active,” she explained. "I do a lot of exercise, but it’s really the gardening ... cutting down a hedge, using my chainsaw to cut down a tree, logging, all of that stuff I do. So, I’m very active." Doing all of those things, even just one activity in a day regularly, can absolutely help ensure that you're logging plenty of active minutes in a day. The American Heart Association counts gardening as "moderate exercise," and depending on whether you're pulling weeds or bagging dirt, you can burn from 200-600 calories an hour. It's no wonder Hurley looks as healthy as she does!

The conversation shifted to how great Jennifer Lopez looked in her figure-baring Versace dress that she had worn to the Grammys. Hurley herself wore a different version of the same one in 2000, making an enormous pop culture splash.

"She looked phenomenal in her dress," she said of Lopez's flowing green look. From time to time, Hurley said, she like to "look at the images" of her back when she wore the same fashion.

Previously, Hurley was known to try out a few other fitness techniques, both related to simply having fun rather than adhering to any sort of strict regimen. She shocked Instagram followers in August 2018 with an Instagram clip of her making an attempt to work off the delicious food she ate during her Grecian vacation by swimming—topless. Clad in a simple bikini bottom from her own swimwear line, she did a silly pirouette while covering herself in the pool.

"Attempting to swim off the calories #holiday #greece @elizabethhurleybeach," she captioned the post.

Hurley has also been known to spend some time with a hula hoop, attempting to learn the best ways to keep the hoop going. Another great form of exercise, for anyone paying attention. Clad in another bikini from Elizabeth Hurley Beach, she showed off her figure while practicing with a red hoop.

"Hula hoop practice," she captioned her snap.

The model is no stranger to bikini shots, that much we know. But now we know a little more about her thoughts on fitness and staying in shape, too. And if wielding a chainsaw or tending to the yard can give you a similar bod like Hurley's, maybe it's totally worth going all-in and starting up a routine!

The star is also a proponent of all-around wellness when it comes to women's health. She's been the Global Ambassador for the Estée Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Campaign for the last 20 years, and recently discussed how "honored" she is to continue the fight against breast cancer with E! News

"I feel honored and really pleased when a lady will come up to me and say I saw you on TV talking about breast cancer and I went and got a mammogram," Hurley shared. "I made sure my daughter or my mother gets a mammogram. That to us is the most important thing I think we achieve on some levels."
